We’re prepared for the fact that One Piece is coming to Hollywood. But an excellent question is, where to start? Well, how about the very beginning? Out of the barrage of arcs in Eiichiro Oda’s manga, producer Marty Adelstein said the live-action series will start from the East Blue arc and “broaden from there”.
This came to light during the weekend at Jump Festa 2018, where Adelstein also commented that the series promises “a true One Piece“. He’d been talking with Oda himself on the project, and we already know the mangaka’s determination that the show “will never betray the fans who have supported me for twenty years”. In fact, it was his one condition for the adaptation going ahead.
Tomorrow Studios, the Adelstein-ITV partnership known for shows such as Prison Break and Teen Wolf, is handling production. The producer has high hopes for the series, and has previously stated that “this project could set a new record for the highest production cost in television drama history”.
How are you feeling about this series? It seems the sheer scale of the seafaring action will be in place, so we remain cautiously hopeful.
