Eiichiro Oda teases future of One Piece from 2018

Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, didn’t even need to be present to cause a stir at Jump Festa last weekend. In a handwritten message projected during a stage presentation, he teased several upcoming developments for his swashbuckling manga. Chief among these was the start of the Wano Country arc from next year. Not to sound like a broken record, he explained that when he first promised the arc for this year, he thought he could meet that goal.

Moving swiftly on, he also wrote that he plans to introduce a “lurking legend” to the Straw Hats’ adventures. Whoever they are, Oda has them pegged as “Luffy and his crew’s greatest enemy”, and hinted that they “might be related to Whitebeard”. The mangaka must have a lot of faith that this arc will be unlike any we’ve seen, assuring that Paramount War will “look cute” compared to this new storyline, and this new enemy.

One thing is certain, Oda knows how to keep readers hooked on his every word. Do you have any thoughts on who this new enemy might be?

Wano Country has so much to offer. Now, I hope the ‘lurking legend’ will be revealed soon in manga!!
