It’s hard to believe we can now say Fairy Tail came to an end last year, after Hiro Mashima saw the story through an 11-year run. But as 2018 brings a fresh start for all, Mashima is getting in the New Year spirit by getting back to work on a brand new project set to launch this year.

As a 2017 thank you, the author tweeted an illustration featuring our old friends from Earth-land, and the promise that he will “work hard” on “a new serialisation” for this year. As the anime also nears its end, the essence of something totally new for Mashima is in the air. Whether this proves true, and how, we’ll have to wait and see. But for the moment, let’s just wish him all the best with his work, whatever form it takes.

I hope he does something with less fanservice

Apparently he said this on twitter before the manga ended its run:
“Even though the original manga is ending, I don’t think Fairy Tail is done just yet. I have a lot of plans, so please look forward to them.”

It will be interesting to see what he does now. Revive rave master??. Or something completely new.

Ooh, really does seem like the new project could be anything. Personally I’d like to see something brand new, see what he can do with a totally different premise and characters.
