Kodansha brought in the new year by announcing that the Shaman King manga will get a whole new lease of life for its 20th anniversary. First published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1998 to 2004, a new arc will begin in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge from this springtime.
More details will soon be arriving on the official anniversary website, but for now at least that something to get us fans through the winter blues. We have fond memories of the anime released overseas by 4Kids, that nostalgic kingpin of our cartoon-viewing childhoods. For us, and we’re sure you agree, its quiet reign was far too short, so we’ll be glad to see it back again very soon.
The manga’s author Hiroyuki Takei had a few words the mark the occasion, saying “I will keep doing my best to make this work reach the readers of the next generation, so I look forward to your continued support”. Takei also mentioned “various projects” still to be revealed, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled, and you updated with any further news.
