An anime film is on the march for Saga of Tanya the Evil, and it’s been confirmed that this won’t be a compilation or recap, but an all-new work based on Carlo Zen and Shinobu Shinotsuki’s novels. A teaser has arrived to give a taster of the military magic, as well as a gorgeous new visual created by Shinotsuki.
The TV series’ director Yutaka Uemura told Newtype magazine that the film will follow right on from the anime’s story. He also noted that it will broaden into the changing relationships between Tanya and her higher-ups, as well as the development of her troops.
Uemura continued that there were no existing plans to make a movie during the anime’s airing, or shortly after it finished. It was pure fan power which allowed the film to be green-lit, and allowed the director to look forward to enhancing the sound work especially for the big screen. On the topic, Uemura mentioned that he’d recently watched Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, which would be sure to influence aspects of the Tanya movie’s presentation.
With Uemura clearly back on board to direct the film, the magazine revealed that Studio NuT returns on production. In addition, cast will reprise their roles from last year’s anime, with Aoi Yuki back as Tanya, and Saori Hayami voicing Visha.
