The role of Cool Japan ambassador was bestowed upon Aya Hirano as of September 9th. Hirano is beloved as the voice of Haruhi Suzumiya, Fairy Tail’s Lucy, Death Note’s Misa Amane, Dragon Ball Super’s Dende and, of course, Lucky Star‘s Konata Izumi. Not only that, but she can now count herself the first ever anime voice actor and singer to claim this government sanctioned honour.
At her appointment ceremony, Hirano said “I want to spread Japan’s charms by attending overseas anime events, among other occasions”. This comes following her four month stay in New York City learning English and polishing her performance game in 2016, so there should be plenty of opportunities for her to show off her new skills in an official capacity in the future.
