Live action film confirmed for The Promised Neverland
A live action adaption of The Promised Neverland manga is in production with a winter 2020 release date lined up.
The film will be helmed by Yuichiro Hirakawa who readers might recognise as the director behind the 2016 live action Erased move. As with Erased, Noriko Goto will write the screenplay.
It’s unclear how much of the manga will make it into the film, but what we do know is that the shipping age of the children has been changed from 12 to 16.
19-year-old Minami Hamabe, 13-year-old Kairi Jo and 17-year-old Rihito Itagaki have been cast in the roles of Emma, Ray and Norman respectively.
The original manga is penned by Kaiu Shirai with art from Posuka Demizu and began serialisation in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. It’s since become a massively popular hit with some 16 million copies published worldwide. Even my local bookshop stocks it!
Still the same story–still won’t watch. But yay for the people who like it!
