DEVILMAN crybaby director adapting Japan Sinks for Netflix
Netflix Japan have announced that there will be a ten-episode anime based on Sakyo Komatsu’s best-selling sci-fi novel Japan Sinks. DEVILMAN crybaby director Masaaki Yuasa is directing the series at his production studio SCIENCE SARU, and the story follows the evacuation of the Muto family when natural disaster devastates Japan soon after the 2020 Olympics.
The series will be titled Japan Sinks 2020 and will premiere in, you guessed it, 2020. This is the novel’s fourth screen adaptation since its publication in 1973, previous outings including a 1973 feature film, a TV drama and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Godzilla in 2006. But it’s the first time it’s being adapted as anime, and surely we can expect a unique take on the story from Yuasa.
