Live-action Cowboy Bebop production halts after on-set injury
Netflix had ony just revealed the beginning of production on its live-action Cowboy Bebop when disaster struck. John Cho, who is playing Spike Spiegel, injured his knee in what the streaming service called a “freak accident” when speaking to Deadline Hollywood on the matter.
Filming is expected to restart in seven to nine months’ time, as Cho will require surgery followed by extensive rehab. Netflix have stated it is only happy to resume production once the actor is well enough to return to the role.
That means it will be at least late spring 2020 before the adaptation of Shinichiro Watanabe’s celebrated space western starts up again. We wish Cho all the best in his recovery, because we’re as eager as anyone to see what he’s made of the character of Spike.
He needs surgery and rehab, and they also need to work around all the commitments the cast and crew have, too. Poor John, and poor Cowboy Bebop.
